Stop the Presses – CS Wins IMA ‘Best in Class’ distinction
Stop the presses and sound the alarm!! We found out yesterday that our entry into the Interactive Media Awards competition has won the IMA Best in Class Award in the Advocacy category. This is our second best in class distinction this year! The first for the W3 awards and now this!!!
The IMA judges scored our entry in the high nineties in all five of the core criteria: Design, Content, Feature Functionality, Usability and Standards Compliance / Cross-Browser Compatibility. As if the award wasn’t enough, our fellow winners for other categories included: Coca Cola, Bacardi, Red Bull, Sony and Cisco to name a few.
CentreSource, Blood:Water Mission team up to launch video on World AIDS Day
Today marks World AIDS Day, a movement that seeks to raise awareness of the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS. Of the 30 million people worldwide that live with the disease, more than 70 percent live in Africa. Nashville-based Blood:Water Mission is a grassroots organization that empowers communities to work together against the HIV/AIDS and water crises.
CentreSource had the honor of producing a video for BWM to show how they are an organization that is about action, not hand-outs. They are about empowering communities to fight against these dangerous threats, not about the status quo in failed programs. The video guides the viewer through the harrowing statistics, but then changes the mindset of despair to promoting one of hope and empowerment.
IAVA, We’ve Got Your Back
Veterans Day is a time for us to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the men and women in our armed forces. That is why we were we were deeply honored to work with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to help launch a Facebook campaign for the latest PSA video last week on Veterans Day. IAVA is the first and largest non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to bettering the lives of veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. We developed the Flash player and utilities that capture the spirit and message of the campaign. You will soon see this amazing video, “Camo,” on television broadcasts across the country.
jqUploader and small files
Recently we had an issue with a website which had a flash upload feature using jqUploader. This feature worked flawlessly when we initially built it but when it was moved to a new server, issues started to come up. First, I discovered that trying to upload empty files results in the following error: “IO error with test.txt.” So now I took it one step further and added 1 character to test.txt, now I don’t get the error, but the flash never shows a progress bar, and never displays that the file was being uploaded. Although, the file was actually uploaded and sent to our php script. We then discovered this, “In some cases, progress events are not received. For example, when the file being transmitted is very small or the upload or download happens very quickly a progress event might not be dispatched.” which can be found here. So, the problem is that the file is so small and the upload is happening so fast, that the events which are called for progress and completion are never even triggered. As far as I know, their is no known fix for this issue. It is just a problem with flash. The next problem was with the complete event. We eventually discovered that jqUploader requires some kind of output at the end of the upload script in order to know it is “complete”. We simply added echo “success”; at the bottom and now it works. I know I didn’t give many answers to the problems described above, but hopefully this will help someone else who comes across the same issue. If you have a solution please comment.
Flash Site of the Week…err…Month
Greetings all,
I’ve returned from Jupiter & brought with me Pixel Peach .com. I find everything about this site to be inspiring. The music is very appropriate to the content, & even features a music player. I think what heavily contributes to this beautifully ethereal site is the fact that the team consists of a flash designer & a photographer, & they’re each phenomenal at their crafts. (There are some great photos on their old site, particularly under “stock”.)
Among all the clever navigation & little “easter egg-y” glitter, there’s one of those click-drag-page-turn gadgets, which some people love! (nlh)

Flash Site of the Week (08/06/06)
Greetings all,
Tonite we’ll be playing with tokyoPlastic.com. This is the first Flash site I saw where my jaw hit the floor & I laid in a puddle of drool for three hours. If the action seems to stop, click on the red circle (of the Japan flag).
After following the following link, there’s some japanese writing & it says “v.2″ – click on that to enter tokyoPlastic.
Enjoy!

ps – have your sound enabled!
Flash Site of the Week (07/30/06)
Greetings all,
Each Sunday nite I’ll be posting a Flash Site of the Week. I’m hoping to receive feedback on what folks like or don’t like about them. Just to get a feel for what people like to look at in a flash element.
I’ll try to give some “Points of Interest” to help you get to the cool stuff quicker, but sometimes there’s just cool stuff everywhere…this being one of those cases.
This is a portfolio site for osmanDinc, an interactive media designer. All I can say about the following site is there’s interactivity everywhere – just move your mouse around to find it if you think you’re “stuck”.
Enjoy,
star.

opening statement
Greetings all,
Star here. I thought I’d dedicate my first entry to the single greatest flash site I’ve found. It’s a massive site that could take years to fully explore, but I encourage you to visit it. It’s got it all: nice sound, cool effects, beautiful photographs, plentiful information, & tons more. I’m sure you will enjoy your experience. This is what I aspire towards in every aspect. It’s my “Holy Grail”, so to speak…my unicorn. Let me know what you think.
Select your language, & after the (skippable) intro click on “enter” next to the “Forest Gallery – world photographs”, & let your amazement soar.
