Localized Spammers

As the developer of Swirbo, CentreSource is highly sensitive to receiving spam messages - even when they come from our own backyard. When we do receive the such messages, we do a bit of investigating and try to understand how any of our staff ended up on the ‘newsletter’.

Most of the time, we can determine that the spammer took the liberty to accept a business card from a staff member - and then added us to a mailing list. The steps would be:

1) Company staff attends networking event, meets someone out, etc.
2) Spammer accepts the card under the ‘networking’ pre-tense
3) Company staff member starts getting a string of newsletters.
** Often, the company staff member is reluctant to unsubscribe because of the ‘network’ they are trying to build. Its a disappointing trap laid by the spamming company that artificially keeps users on its list (typically applies only to a local market)

There you have it - that’s how you end up on localized newsletters without giving your permission or signing up.

Note: This is not acceptable and you should feel comfortable removing yourself from the list. The person that places you on their list without your permission is SPAMMING you.

We get enough email as it is, we shouldn’t have to worry about giving our business cards out!
